Our Approach

At UNIUN, our approach to healing is psychospiritual, meaning we recognize the intricate interplay between psychological and spiritual dimensions of the human experience. This approach integrates psychological insights with spiritual wisdom, fostering holistic healing that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Why Psychospiritual?

A purely therapeutic approach often focuses solely on addressing psychological symptoms and distress, overlooking the deeper spiritual dimensions of human existence. Conversely, a purely spiritual approach may lack the practical tools and insights necessary for navigating psychological wounds and traumas.

By blending therapeutic techniques with spiritual practices, our approach offers a balanced and integrative path to healing. We provide the psychological support needed to navigate trauma and challenges, while also tapping into the profound wisdom and resilience of the human spirit, keeping it both grounded and luminous.

Our Approach

Our Ethos

We honor the beautiful truth that collective healing emerges from the intentional inner work of the individual. We are committed to centering the human heart, empowering each individual to embrace the natural unfolding process inherent in their life's journey. We hold sacred the understanding that nobody heals anyone else; rather, we hold compassionate space and faith for each person to embark on their transformative journey.

Our ethos is anchored in cultivating a deep comfort with and trust in the Great Mystery. With reverence and humility, we navigate the liminal spaces of expanded states of consciousness, recognizing that within these states lie opportunities for profound healing and personal growth.

We embrace an integrative approach to supporting individuals navigating expanded states of consciousness, drawing inspiration from diverse traditions such as psychology, spiritism, animism, and mysticism. Through this synthesis, we create a rich tapestry of practices and insights to guide participants on their inner exploration.

Our Story

Niko Whitefeather founded UNIUN in 2024 in the midst of an ever-shifting psychedelic landscape in the United States, drawing inspiration from the intricate mycelial network and his decade of work with this medicine to guide the structure and ethos of this offering. UNIUN was born out of a heartfelt response to the collective call for healing and harmony on this planet.

In an era marked by rising rates of mental illness and societal fractures, the emergence of state-run psilocybin service centers offers both promise and peril. Yet, the unfortunate reality is that our current legal avenues for psychedelic therapy in the United States often prioritize profit over holistic healing and, in some cases, safety. We see exorbitant fees for brief experiences lacking in integration, community, and a connection to the natural world from which these medicines grow.

In full transparency, we are deeply concerned by the Oregon Health Authority’s mandate of only 160 hours of coursework for psilocybin training programs, and the prospect of similar mandates across the country. This training may not even include direct engagement with psilocybin mushrooms. It's disconcerting for us to know that individuals with minimal experience can undergo a 160-hour class—fewer hours than required for a barber's license—and then claim qualification to hold someone through the depths of human consciousness and back.

This reality compelled Niko to reflect on the urgent need for an alternative—a shift toward a model that prioritizes depth, authenticity, and safety. Our retreats offer a holistic approach to healing guided by highly trained practitioners, held in serene natural settings that invite deep connection with the natural world. We consciously honor the many earth-based traditions that have worked with this medicine for millennia, even as we bring in modern therapeutic and scientific ways of approaching the medicine.

When we say "holistic" at UNIUN, we truly mean that the whole person is honored and supported. This includes the global community we each are part of. What benefits one part of the whole, benefits the entirety.

That's why UNIUN commits to giving back 5% of all profits to Chacruna’s Indigenous Reciprocity Initiative. The Indigenous Reciprocity Initiative of the Americas (IRI) stands as a grassroots network of Indigenous community organizations dedicated to fighting for land, water, food, sacred medicine, and culture.

By contributing to this initiative, UNIUN honors the principle of reciprocity—recognizing that our well-being is intricately interconnected with the well-being of Indigenous communities and the Earth herself. On this journey of healing that extends beyond ourselves, we honor and support the guardians of ancient wisdom and sacred lands.
